An Evening With Bishop Gabby

I'd like to ask for your help in emailing this circular to all concerned CFC members. I was told that there seems to be a problem with CFC server that is handling the email forwarding, as some have received this and others haven't. Lets all step up and give them a little assistance, please forward it to all your friends and family in CFC.

You can download the PDF file HERE.

Many thanks.

ps

Just to clarify, this is a press release, not a council statement. =)

In don't feel that I should comment on this but my better judgement is saying go.

cfc this is not to step on your toes but I think it's Cultural and this is a good example to learn something from this.

I observed that it's EASY to recognized the DEFFICIENCY OF THE PACKAGING and missed out on the Beauty of the MESSAGE.

It's convenient to judge the book by it's cover rather than dredge the nuggets embedded in the words.

It can be a good practice though, NOT to be fixated on the MESSENGER rather look for the MESSAGE the Spirit of God in the words.

“Forgiving the Church

When we have been wounded by the Church, our temptation is to reject it. But when we reject the Church it becomes very hard for us to keep in touch with the living Christ. When we say, "I love Jesus, but I hate the Church," we end up losing not only the Church but Jesus too. The challenge is to forgive the Church. This challenge is especially great because the Church seldom asks us for forgiveness, at least not officially. But the Church as an often fallible human organization needs our forgiveness, while the Church as the living Christ among us continues to offer us forgiveness.

It is important to think about the Church not as "over there" but as a community of struggling, weak people of whom we are part and in whom we meet our Lord and Redeemer.” – Bishop Hen.N.

(CD, how do I color my font like Psalm1914 did. I had this on Word, then had it colored green, but when i copy it here. my font n text color is lost.)

Mga kapatid, you should check out Bro. Bo Sanchez' article on "Taking Charge" (http://bosanchez.ph/take-charge).

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frighten us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD?
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you.
It is not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

To Bishop Hen. N. Thank you for your kind words. You are right, any organization, our mother the Church included, is an often fallible human organization (that) needs our forgiveness, while the Church as the living Christ among us continues to offer us forgiveness. We also ask forgiveness as a community if in any way, shape or form we have offended the Church and each other as part of its body by our arrogance and "self-righteousness". What we be without Him? Mere vindictive, unforgiving and angry human beings?

thanks for the reminders Bishop Hen. it is the human nature in us that rejects and criticize the Church.

The challenge is to forgive the Church. This challenge is especially great because the Church seldom asks us for forgiveness, at least not officially. But the Church as an often fallible human organization needs our forgiveness

i think as fast as the Church or a Christian will ask forgiveness - forgiveness will be given swiftly as well.

salamat po ulit... thanks for dropping by.
the color in psalm 1914 was an error made in the previous comment thats why its all underlined and in blue. :)

The post from "I am a catholic bishop" is actually a quote from Fr. Henri Nouen (a dutch Catholic priest - not bishop).
Check this link for similar quote.

Nevertheless, it is a nice quote. If the poster would kindly identify himself if he is really a bishop, that would be appreciated by the community.

Hi CD, Here's something for everyone to reflect on...

"How much I criticize you, my church and yet how much I love you!
You have made me suffer more than anyone and yet I owe more to you
than to anyone.
I should like to see you destroyed and yet I need your presence.
You have given me much scandal and yet you alone have made me
understand holiness.
Never in this world have I seen anything more compromised, more false,
yet never have I touched anything more pure, more generous or more beautiful.
Countless times I have felt like slamming the door of my soul in your face
– and yet, every night, I have prayed that I might die in your sure arms!
No, I cannot be free of you, for I am one with you, even if not completely you.
Then too – where would I go?
To build another church?
But I could not build one without the same defects, for they are my defects. And again, if I were to build another church, it would be my church, not Christ’s church.
No, I am old enough. I know better!"

CD, I truly appreciate this blogspot. It is informative, enlightening as well as a source of enjoyment just by reading some comments and posted statements, photos, etc.

Lest we get sidetracked by all these expressions of varied emotions which I now see as all part of a grief process brought about by the crisis of a split, let's not forget a simple but powerful way of confronting the inevitable - meditative prayer.

I'd like to share this website that may help during our prayer time - http://www.sacredspace.ie.

More power to you!

It was with much sense of consolation that we read the CFC Multimedia Center's account of Bishop Gabby Reyes' exhortation to the CFC Mission Core Group in its regular Mission Core Teaching Night last October 16, 2007.

The heart and core of Bishop Gabby's teaching clearly placed the priorities of faith communities in the proper context. He specified that there are two goals of integral evangelization. The first goal "IS SALVATION WHICH BRINGS ABOUT RECONCILIATION WITH GOD, RESULTING TO FREEDOM FROM SIN AND THE REJECTION OF SIN AND EVIL." The second in terms of priority is liberation which "ASPIRED TO FREE MAN FROM HUNGER, DISEASE, IGNORANCE, LACK OF HOUSING, INHUMAN POVERTY AND IN JUSTICE." But in the same token, he reminded the assembly to keep in mind that "IN OUR WORK OF SOCIAL APOSTOLATE, SALVATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIBERATION."

The good Bishop also affirmed that the study and practice of contemplative prayer is important, stressing that "prayer and contemplation should be the main sustaining force of evangelization, because it is the deep experience of the person and the message of Jesus which leads us to effective evangelization."

We thank the good Bishop for his strong reaffirmation of the very directions of CFC-FFL in initiating the Restoration Movement. It was in keeping with the call for the restoration of the eroded spiritual anchors of our existence and the inordinate priorities placed on the aspect of liberation that it became inevitable for CFC-FFL to bring back the community to its original charism.

In the same token, the good Bishop struck a familiar word of caution after the Church's sad experience with the ideology of liberation theology in Latin America by stressing that "social apostolate, as a main component of evangelization, must be carried out in a close relationship with catechesis and worship." Continuing his words of caution, he stressed that "social apostolate without catechesis can become activism and may easily fall into the danger of being guided by unchristian ideologies." Bishop Gabby was equally emphatic that "without worship and prayer, social apostolate will lose it source of strength."

These messages bring forth shared memories of a lamented past where the overromanticization of our social apostolate came at the expense of our work of evangelization resulting in our dwindling numbers. More recently, we also saw the sad spectacle of being coy albeit bashful of unfurling our Christian banner to pay more tribute to the values of entrepreneurship. But nowhere does one see in the news releases the face and the identity of the mother which gave birth to the child. Again, the child may have placed the mother at the altar of sacrifice just over 2 weeks after the good Bishop made his powerful exhortation.

Lessons are indeed hard to come by and memories are bound to be short. As CFC-FFL, we ought not to repeat the mistakes of the past and always seek the proper alignments of our vision, mission and values and never again should we allow our priorities to make us veer away from our true north.

(TO PSALM 1914, FFL Follower)

I quote in part: "..Lessons are indeed hard to come by and memories are bound to be short...we ought not to repeat the mistakes of the past..."

CFC-FFL, please review:

Lesson #1: Frank Padilla may NOT BE THE FOUNDER OF CFC AT ALL as can be gleaned from the written account of Fr. Schneider

Lesson #2: Unlike CFC when it bolted from LNP, FFL has never been a part of CFC.

Lesson #3: Since you are not CFC, just use the term FFL; also avoid using the first person pronoun (we, our). It does not feel good and only tempts one like me to consider verrryyy harrrsssh words for you (I'd rather not say 'em here). Of course this changes if there is a decision by you to make amends for your prodigal behavior. It is a humanly difficult thing to lovingly await your conciliatory move...but we give in and try to follow the narrowest path of our Lord who, "on the night he WAS BETRAYED, HE GAVE THANKS..."

Lesson #4: If you want to bring good news, then just be yourself; behave.

This is about all for now. Rest assured that you do not sow loving words and feelings by your continued use of CFC.

"Have a nice day."

GO GO GO FFL...keeping moving in prayer to find your true north..we offer prayers for all of you.

Now please, please please FFL...stop the poaching of CFC members because they are busy doing work for the poor and in so doing living their prayer while saying it and attending to the mission of Jesus among the WEAKEST PEOPLE-THE POOR, whom Jesus himself showed a bias for.

So if you still think we are veering away (in the present tense) then do not follow us because you might get 'lost too' go find your 'road', the one you yourselves defined. Too much time you spend commenting on our supposed 'disobedience', 'veering away', partnering with pharmas you disapprove of', etc... actually take your time from doing your active, overtly Catholic evangelization. Just do that. God will bless you for it. don't mind us. MYOB!

Meantime we will do our work too! And if you if feel magnanimous, you might like to offer prayers for us.

At the end of the day ( and perhaps time), we might even meet in heaven!

I will offer prayers for you.

go go go ffl.....Bye!

Joni Tanitayturin, some of the comment you posted is so harsh. I have remained in CFC and yet your kind of words give me the creeps and make me think "magkapatid ba tayo sa community?"

You have given the word "selfish" a new meaning. Pati pronoun usage, tinira mo pa? If you think that PSALM 1914 and FFL Follower are misbehaving, look at what you have written.

You do not own CFC and you do not have the right to stop anyone from mentioning it in their commentaries. Unless you represent the IC, please be fair like CD (the blog owner).

Such a hypocrite "Have a nice day" closing line after hurling vindictive words would not bring love.

Come on Joni, you can do better than that, can't you?

Anonymous said...

Actually Bro. Joni, I am not FFL. CD knows who and I am, well at least via my cyber address and he can vouch for my alignment and I assure you it is not FFL.

Pls read Psalm 19:14, that's the reason for the "call name". Unfortunately, I couldn't do a ":" on my user name. As far as I know, there is no Psalm 191:4 or Psalm 1:914 so I had hoped that the bloggers would get it.

As far as your "assumption" na FFL ako, is it because I make a conscious decision to listen (NOT NECESSARILY AGREE) to our brothers and sisters in FFL? bakit, LAHAT BA NANG SINASABI NILA MALI, I mean LAHAT. I've always maintained na kahit hindi ko gusto ang method nila o some of the things na sinasabi nila, igsoon gihapon nako sila sa Ginoo (kapatid ko pa rin sila kay Kristo). Gibuhat gihapon sila na kanawong sa akong Ginoo (they were created in the image of my God). Pareha lang sila sa atong mga igsoon na pobre, nakapatay, nangawat, bisan pa ug unsa ka bug-at ilang gibuhat sa ato, anak gihapon sa Ginoo ug naa gihapon silay boses ug dili dapat ibalewala ang ilang ginaingon (they are just like our brothers and sisters who are poor, murderers and thieves, no matter how grave their sin, THEY ARE STILL CHILDREN OF GOD, and they have a voice, an opinion that shouldn't just be ignored).

To "kadikit nang puso mo", thank you for standing up. I understand Joni actually because when emotions are high, and the debate gets heated we often forget that we are still brothers and sisters in Christ. I've been there, months ago, and I thank our Lord for giving me peace in my heart and assurance that this is where He wants me to be, in this moment, to do His work "for such a time as this". I didn't take offense in Joni's comments, we all have to give each other time to be angry, grieve and mourn, only then will we be able to see HOPE in this situation.

To the rest of the bloggers, what I meant by meron tayong pinag-agreehan is this: we may not like what FFL has written in this letter for the most part, but I wanted you to see that although we now are going in different directions, we still have commonality, kahit maliit lang, in this case the "consolation" that both groups heard from Bishop Reyes. Start small, Jerusalem wasn't built in a day, the walls of Jericho did not come tumbling down in one day, the earth was not created in one day. What did all of the 12 tribes of Israel have in common that allowed them to be united in building the Temple of Solomon and Jerusalem? the promise of Yahweh that He will save His his people and the faithfulness and hope of a people, who stumbled and got lost along the way, but together their collective faithfulness and return to the covenant of God brought them home. FIND THE COMMONALITY IN OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN FFL, embrace that commonolity, lift up to God our differences AND OUR HURT for words exchanged and move on in our different directions to fulfill what we have been called to do, keeping in our heart the hope and promise that one day we will ALL be home with the Father and we will show Him our marks of the mission and He will say to ALL of us with arms outstretched "well done My good and faithful servant"

"May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my soul be acceptable to you MY LORD, MY ROCK and MY REDEEMER." (Psalm 19:14)

I personally dont mind the other group when they call themselves CFCFFL. It is part of their freedom to choose whatever name they want.
Show respect to them by calling them CFCFFL, they might actually start calling us with OUR CHOSEN NAME which is CFC and not CFC-IC or CFC-GK etc. Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you na baligtad. I know it is a slim chance, but doing the right thing is an end in itself and we dont need to wait for the other party to do the right thing.

When they start calling themselves CFC(and not CFCFFL), is another story though....because we will have exactly the same name! no way to distinguish...

The IC already said clearly that they are not part of CFC(the group headed by IC), and because I follow the head, then their statement is the one I believe.

CFCFFL can shout and claim to be still CFC, but since I am not part of their group, and their statement is directly opposite of what IC has stated, then I just don't believe them and then go on with my life and still call them CFCFFL just out of respect to them.

I honor Janeiro and Psalm 19:14 for the hearts that they have are hearts that have been melted by Jesus Christ.

May your example vibrate towards my way so that I too can emulate Jesus.

Peace to all!

AMEN to all.

I just could not agree that FFL can be “bedmate” and co-own “CFC” even if, as a group dubbed as “Easter playboys and bunnies”, it has long ago decided to separate and burn our house down … As per the spiritual adviser-priest of CFC-Toronto (CD, sorry I can’t recall right now the Most Reverend’s name), it was better that FFL did not use “CFC” anymore in its official ID because then, it could open old wounds. And we’ve realized it can even cut new ones now among us who’ve stayed, or are still discerning whether to stay behind.

As “CFC”, FFL uses the same words of His Excellency Bishop Gabby Reyes to throw them like rocks at the original CFC -- (this is the reason I insist that FFL drop CFC in its ID); pinupokol tayo by the same words that are meant to feed us. I totally disagree that Bishop Reyes actually expressed support to “CFC-FFL’s” restoration movement against the “socialist” and “liberationist” GK in that gathering by CFC where he was the honoured guest! Aside from lacking sanity, the idea was also unfounded because, in our area, we’ve built GK as one of the Seven Pillars of CFC. In this context, and because their statements suggested their being CFC matter-of-factly, I felt that FFL’s use of the plural possessive pronouns “we … our” should be negated.

CD, kindly do the balancing now, because being one-sided here, I may not be able to see the coast clearly… For all I care, FFL may just as well quote from any source in or out of CFC to drive its point, provided it does not hypocritically append CFC in is formal ID. I only want to rage against its unfair use of the name of the home that it attempted to burn down to ashes, and while sleeping with the rest of the members of that home as a purported resident, may now freely do all the mockery of a real one.

I hurt and feel bad that FFL just continues to latch the term "CFC” to its already separate ID. I wish to honour you and all there, for your concern and love for our brothers and sisters in FFL. There’s this Ilonggo-Visayan maxim I heard lately, which may aptly fit our case (having been long in Mindanao’s Cebuano-Visayan area, I cannot be anymore that fluent in Ilonggo and the nuance of this saying, so Illongos out there please help out): “Kon ang basa gani nga kahoy mag-ulon sa dongkulan, maduktan guid man ina gihapon…” Trans: If a wet firewood leans on a coal (it’s a burning log in a fireplace), it eventually burns, too. Indeed, LOVE GIVES…

Yes, Psalm 1914, we must hold on to the commonalities!. And about the MARKS we will show to the Father at the end of the Mission, I also see these as scars from grappling in loving embrace our confused and lost co-missionary CFC brothers and sisters while journeying together. Praise God!

CD, THANK YOU FOR GIVING VENT TO MY PENT-UP ANGER.

wa-ay nga problema. i understood your point Joni.

i love you all brothers and sisters in CFC and FFL. everything belongs to Him. let us not die hugging and claiming our "earthly belongings." ibigay natin ang lahat para sa Kanya.
