The Power of Prayer!

A big thank you to those who sent pictures in, especially to Chris F. for the awesome panoramic. Great shooting, buddy! Check out more of his pictures here.

So I thought this comment deserved an entry of its own, thanks to commenter CELEBRATED PENTECOST who posted this on Our Separate Ways:

I was at Amoranto Velodrome in QC last night, May 10 (6;30PM) up to this morning May 11 (2:00AM)!

I saw empty whitE mono-block chairs drenched by the rain at around 7:00 to past 8:00 PM.

I saw an empty (of people) stage with electronic audio equipment dangerously exposed to the weather.

I saw few people about 2,000 to three thousand with worried disappointed look in their faces, some of those next to me said: "pag-tumila ng kaunti ang ulan alis na tayo!"

I saw Fr. Paul take the mike from the SFC or HOLD member in black (she is from Indonesia?)and then Fr. Paul led all to prayer and songs of praise: a prayer for God to stop the rain.

I saw some handmaids and CFC leaders start praying to Mama Mary and the rosary prayer also had one petition: "Stop the Rain!"

Then I saw the raindrops thin out to a drizzle, then just to a mist, then IT WAS GONE!!!!!

Then the lights and sounds came on again and then the announcement:"THE PROGRAM WILL PROCEED"

HALLELUJAH !! GOD IS GOOD!! BLESSED MOTHER INTERCEDES !!

Then everything is history!

1. CFC begins and ends a night assembly, despite the threat of bad weather, with at least 15,000 to 17,000 members of CFC and Ministries!

2. CFC completes formation of a HUMAN CROSS (will someone please provide the external measurement of the cross, so we can more or less estimate how many persons they filled it with!) with my humble estimate of at least 12k to 13k brothers and sisters & kids standing there.

3. a first celebration of a PENTECOST RALLY with a celebration of Holy Eucharist as top attraction and reason for being ( I forgot the Latin words)!

4. I think it is also a first in CFC gathering that a big GK related show - 'TAO PO' was presented. I am sure happy that it was announced that the show will be done also in Singapore.

By the way, please pray for a male 'Tao Po' performer who met an accident after he played his role: HE FELL OFF THE SLIPPERY STAGE STAIR. DOCTORS MIGHT HAVE DIAGNOSED A BROKEN BONE AS I SAW THEY TIED UP HIS LEG WHEN THEY BOARDED HIM ON THE AMBULANCE.

The MOTHERS HAD A BONUS, as Mass Celebrant Bishop Yniguez greeted them for Mother's Day; he reminded us too of Mama Mary's being our mother!.

One more before I go: PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED! GOD IS WITH US -- an no rain can stop what we do for Him to affirm HIS GLORY!! (by the way, people did not leave when the rain stopped!)
Here is jiggs' moving account:

Our busful of CFC/YFC left las pinas at around 630pm. It was not raining yet but along the way rain started to pour. When we were at the Baclaran area, rain was terrible. I was silently praying and hoping that the rain is confined only in the south and that in QC its dry and not raining. i was tempted to text friends in the QC area to check, but i did not because i know God would listen.

Rains started to become stronger as we enter Manila. but while in the quiapo area, rains start to quiet down, it was heavy drizzle na lang and not as strong.

we passed along Espana and we saw a lot of floods plus some traffic in the area. I prayed as i looked at the traffic and the floods. I prayed that the rain fully stop so as not to dampen the spirit of our members and the youth/children with us in the bus. We dont want them to get wet.
Finally, we arrived at around 820pm in Amoranto. I thanked God because there was no more rain. as we entered the complex, there were arleady people in the grandstand around 30% filled, gathered at the center. The oval/velodrome was empty of people, chairs are still stacked up with no one to use them.

And then just about a few minutes after we entered the stadium, the program began. We came in just in time. :)

As the program progresses, my sight was on the grandstand which continued to fill. People continue to arrive, people started to fill the grandstand at both ends. then people started to fill the oval as well. Stacked chairs were lined up inside the oval. and people continue to fill the grandstand to around 60-70% capacity. people were singing, dancing and clapping their hands during the festivities because the rains stopped. i was saying to my seatmate, ang lakas talaga natin kay Lord.

just when the mass finished, some drops of rain were felt - yun na nga yung final blessing coz i think the rain did not pour anymore. its as if it was there to bless the people.

i will not talk about the program anymore, but i saw God's hand in all these. the rain stopped just to allow the program to proceed... to form the human cross... and to celebrate the Pentecost mass... ang galing talaga ni Lord!

Please share your experiences!

A belated Happy Mother's day to the Blessed Mother Mary and to all the mothers out there, I hope we are making you proud! To the beautiful and hardworking mothers in my life, MOM and MAMA...I'd just like to say:

Thank you for bringing me into this world, keeping me pointed in the right direction, keeping me grounded when I was flying too high, and uplifting me when I was down. The love you give and show transcend mere words like "in-law", and I will be forever thankful for being embraced with the love you show an undeserving son. There are no words to express the gratitude I feel, but I will live the rest of my days trying to live up to and deserve your love.

Thank you...for EVERYTHING.

They say when your son marries, you gain a daughter in law, but when your daughter marries, you gain a son.

Your papa and I stand proud for everything you have done for our community. I know the difficulties you have gone through, you have journeyed this far and as we always told you, God has a reason for everything.

Thank you for your steadfastness, thank you for your patience, thank you for carrying your cross with such awesome faith, and above all thank you for keeping vigil all these months, that the lamp of truth may shine for everyone to see. God has given you your courage and your strength, it is but right that you stay and be His faithful servant all the days of your life.

May God bless you always, my son, CD for now.

We feel blessed reading what "mama said..."

Having been here with CD, it feels really like family. (CD, from "mama", I guess you'll have to marry somebody's daughter in order to be the other mama's son. "Mama" says you're her (real) "son...for now". Guess lang, ito CD. God bless your family!)

CD, we've noticed the changing of colors. Thanks for the message that the war clouds have cleared and the battle alert has reverted from "red" to "blue".

Please tell them to come back from the CBCP New blog. There's a post there suggesting CFC and FFL return to barracks. Now that this blog has turned a peaceful leaf, why not encourage them in CFC and FFL to work hard separately for the Lord (there's a quote of the CBCP post in the entry "Separate Ways". Fringe benefit na lang kung somewhere, magkita-kita ang brethren for some cooperative work for more effective evangelization.

To Mama,

Your letter to CD brought tears to my eyes. Your pride in him shines through and your love shines brightest. I was very much touched also by his letter to you. I have three grown sons and twin teenaged daughters myself and they are indeed my pride and joy. For a mother to receive such a wonderful letter is enough recompense for all the sacrifices and all the love we mothers give.

What mother wouldn't be proud of CD? I too, thank you, CD, for being there for all of us in the community when we were down. You raised up our spirits and allowed us to hope that indeed, this is only a temporary bump in our shared lives and that the Lord is helping us through it.

Dear Mama and CD, God bless you both.

Good morning everyone!

I am inspired by the reflection in here.

Why don't we set every 3 o'clock as our prayer just for 15 minutes and offer it for the real unity among us, no CFC-FFL anymore and back to only one CFC. Let us pray for our leaders to lay down their sword of pride, of anger, of hurt and etc.

Our Blesses Mother intercedes for us, she stopped the rain and we were able to proceed our activity.

This time, let us pray again, to stop the "RAIN" that disunite us, the "RAIN" that made us angry, and the "RAIN" that continues scandalizing us.

Bro. Mero :-)

Dear CD...
yes we we're one of the few who arrived early and experienced the faithfulness of God thru the intercession of our Mother Mary...after the prayers, the activity went on smoothly...until the communion rites... after we had our communion... as my husband and i returned back to our chairs, i felt that some kind of sprinkling to my right hand... and so i looked up to the sky to see if it's coming from there... yes God love us so much that He blessed us using the sprinkling of the rain after the mass...it was a great day as we really experience the sending of the Holy Spirit to affirm God's love to Couples for Christ... God bless us all... God bless Couples for Christ...

My Pentecost Rally experience..

midday @ Amoranto
sun shining -- preparations were all set and just a bit of final touches.. thank God for the sunlight

didn't need to be in a beach to get tanned, sound check was near perfect.. thank God for the sun

then the scorching sun slowly affected the few who are gathered as a group of people came in and distributed fan (for free).. whew! thank God for the fan

then another group distributed simcards (again for free) thank God for globe (hehehe.. di pala suncell)

an hour before we start@Amoranto
when it's really getting heated up , i heard raindrops, i thought the raindrops will only bring out the heat all the more...

the raindrops turned into drizzle that turned into a heavy downpour.. whoa... now everything's wet. i became worried until Fr. Paul led us into worship and prayed to God to stop the rain... (be still)

thank God for the rain! now the air is much cooler and with the stadium nearly filled..

rocking@Amoranto
thank God for the gift of talents
thank God for the singing, the dancing, the gift of praise, the gift of unity in community (human cross on candlelit)

midnight@Amoranto
thank God for the holy mass!
thank God for the bishop... i was blessed by the bishop as he passes by me...

as i was going out of the stadium
i bumped into my household head and exchange embrace of love.. i ran into my sector head exchanged thank yous for a job well done..
i met some IC and bid me God bless you! thank God for IC for blessing them in leading us...

thank God for CFC! my community

and for final blessing, it drizzled a bit, as God is making his final blessing to His faithful!

What an awesome God!

55 families affected by GK village flashflood

At least 55 families were affected by the flashflood that struck a Gawad Kalinga Village in Brookside, Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City. As of Tuesday morning, the victims were still at evacuation centers.

Officials of the Philippine National Red Cross in Quezon City said families staying at the barangay hall and covered court of Barangay Bagong Silangan will be allowed to return to their homes once the weather clears up.

Reports said the shoulder-level floods have already receded.

Rain-induced floodwaters from a creek near the village rushed in Monday afternoon after a five-meter long segment of dike gave way.

A resident identified only as "Nissy" told abs-cbnNEWS.com in a phone interview that the floods rose to "shoulder-level," inundating the homes.

"Normally, when it floods, it only goes up to the knees. But this is definitely a first. It's up to the shoulders now if you're standing at ground level," Nissy added via a text message.

An estimated 100 homes were affected by the flood, police said.

Many residents were trapped inside their homes, while some bore holes in their roofs to escape to their rooftops. Several residents rushed to evacuate children and elderly residents to the evacuation centers.

I really believed that God really showed to the true CFC His love in the Pentecost Rally. He did manifested His presence!

Everyone who were early at the stadium were already disheartened because of the rains which seems to get stronger. And then the praise and worship begun and after the praying of the rosary. A little while, it was just a drizzle and then the rain completely stopped.

I also remember a brother jokingly said to me that on Pentecost shouldn't be the fire that will be evident so why was it raining?

It was only towards the end of the program that I understood... for in the midst of the gathering i felt the fire and warmth of fellowship with the community and the love and presence of God.

i was on unfamiliar territory... first meeting with the production for Pentecost Rally. I am alien to most of the people except for the event head, which is our sector head and 2 other brothers also from the sector... and of course my neokid...

the program, the ideas and the production were all a-ok! everything seems to fit. but there was something missing i thought.

d-day Amoranto --- all is set and waiting for the time to start...

then it rained... pouring as if it will never stop... telling me to pack up, nothing is going to happen tonight.

i heard mumbles all around, some praying, some complaining, some reciting the rosary...

then i realized, we need God here! we need His stamp of approval, we need His nod and we need His go ahead. That was it!

I said to myself we need to put God first! Then I heard praise music is being played and then I heard Fr. Paul leading us to pray exhorting us to worship ... and the rest is history!

"in everything we do let us put God first and all will be added..."

Be praised my God!

Fw: [sfc_manila] SFC's Help Urgently Needed in GK Brookside

Dear CFCs,

Our help is urgently needed by our brothers and sisters from GK Brookside where a flash flood took place yesterday. A nearby dike collapsed, causing the flood. Our GK team in the area led by Bro. Raul Dizon, have been working since yesterday, trying to sandbag the dike to prevent another flood when the rains come again. They are also evacuating our brothers and sisters to nearby multipurpose halls etc. Help is urgently needed especially for sandbagging so that this can be finished before it rains again.

These are the help they need:

Manpower/Volunteers for
1. Sandbagging (brothers)
2. Food operations

Equipment, especially for Night operations:
1. 2-way radios
2. Bullhorns
3. Flashlights

Relief goods
1. Food (ready-to-eat, will not require cooking)
2. Water
3. Clothing

Please bring equipment and relief goods to the residence of Bro. Trudy Cruz 09285026052 at 79 Dona Francesca St. Filinivest 2, Quezon City.
Directions: From Commonwealth, turn right to Sandigan, then right to Batasan - San Mateo Road, then left to Petron. From Petron, straight ahead to gate 1 of Filinvest 2, then ask guard for directions to Dna. Francesca.

Volunteers may go directly to GK Brookside and look for Doc Eric
09209527901, Benjie 09062864447, or Bro. Raul Dizon 09285012298.

Let us come to the aid of our GK brethren, and our brothers and sisters who have not slept all night attending to the needs of the residents. Let's also be prayer warriors for the safety of everyone concerned, for one child from a GK family who is still missing, and strength for all those giving of themselves in love and service to others.

Please pass this on to all CFCs.

God bless,
Aldy and Joy Katigbak

I got curious about The Pontifical Council for the Laity and I read this on their Vatican website:

" 4.2. Members and consultors

Whereas the members of the Congregations are mainly cardinals and bishops – with the addition, in certain cases, of “some clerics and other Christian faithful”(21) – the majority of the members and consultors of the Pontifical Council are lay people, appointed – together with certain bishops – by the Holy Father for a period of five years. The bishops are generally chosen because of their particular function, especially as secretaries of other departments of the Curia."

It says there that the Council is appointed by the Holy Father for a period of five years. Naka-five years na ba si FAP? What's your interpretation on this policy?

All I can say is WOW Amazing! That Pentecost Rally was one for the books. I know other communities had that celebration as well, though not as grand. Would have wanted the initial plans to happen, the one planned for Luneta Grandstand, together with Fokolare,Bukas Loob sa Diyos and other Christian Renewal Communities. I don't know why it did not fall through,God had other more dramatic plans specially for CFC the one and only. My wife and I had painful bodies that day. I had lost hope that we will be able to attend. We attended the 6 PM anticipated mass just in case we became up to attending, my wife took some medication because she could not tolerate the pain in her knee and by the time we were about to leave the church the rain poured. Had dinner in Gateway to get out of the rain and after dinner we played it by ear, we said to ourselves that God simply sent us the rain to cool the Pentecost Celebration. At around 8:45 no more rain and proceeded to Amoranto. Had difficulty parking but persevered and entered the stadium. It was full but quite, GK group was performing. Things livened up when worship songs were sung by the 29 AD and later Kenosis. And so they say the rest is history. We joined the worship and all the pain in our bodies vanished, thank you Lord thank you Holy Spirit.

BY the way, it occurred to me that the rains this year are coming on early and the weather looks like it would be rainy from hereon in.

I wonder, is the International Council entertaining ideas about field activities for the Anniversary again at Luneta Parks or wherever? So why don’t we hire the whole available space of the World Trade Center to ensure we are not rained-out?

I think it is high time we change our format….. the grand parades gathering Sectors and Provinces are getting stale no matter how many colorful flags, streamers, dancers, color designated Tee Shirts you put in to hype attendance.

While that has done wonders in the past, whether done outside or inside Araneta Coliseum, they were truly awesome and a beauty to behold. But we’ve proven the point.. CFC gatherings are really joyful.

The human cross that we all did last Pentecost should be the last mass movement of CFC members that we should do. I think that should be one memorable highlight we all should joyfully remember in a while.

IC members please do not take this as criticism. We can still do field activity, but may I suggest such should be biased towards having the kids / youth / young SFCs and the forever-young members of HOLD in games (specially featuring Filipino kids’ games) and or dances.

Another thing, the June sunshine will be very minimal as most of those days will be rainy.

Hello to all!

Today and tomorrow, CFC Rizal is holding its 21st anniversary at the Binangonan Gym in Binangonan, Rizal!

Tomorrow will be the anniversary proper, maraming activities and other events.

(PS. Thanks in advance to Tito Rouquel and Tito Ernie for visiting us there.)

Hope to see you there (lalo na kung taga-Rizal ka, nag-stay ka man or hindi, hehe) :-)!

In all likelihood, malapit ako sa stage...

i usually plan ahead before attending any cfc activity, my usual thing to do would be- gather up wives of other units and then we would pre assign, ikaw mag dala ng ganito, siya drink, etc.
this is the first time we just went, without baon and all. i texted my cluster head and asked her how it was, she said hay grabe ang ulan, baka d na matuloy. so i took my time, we went to sing in a clp at our parish and i texted her again. she said come na, there is no more rain the program just started, punta na kayo.so we went.

we had no problem parking, i told my chapter head naku siguro tayo na lang ang taga chapter natin na pumunta.

we snaked our way in, there was a steady flow of people. festive ang mood, pero gutom na ako. we had no dinner just a pc of sandwhich from the clp, it was about 930 then.
we proceeded to the far corner- left side, that was the section for north b.

when we got there, we were surprised nandun mga kasama namin sa chapter, pati mga anak nila. they were all telling us about how the rain just stopped after their singing and rosary...

then hunger pangs set in. wala kaming dalang baon, just the candles and our umbrellas- then one by one the food came- a sister had 3 pcs of skyflakes, may dumaan na yfc nagtinda ng drinks. may nag abot ng chicheria, may dumating may bitbit na sandwhich tira din daw ng clp nila, taga ibang chapter.
we were at the farthest end of the grandstand, the food stalls were right beneath us, we could smell the coffee and the popcorn but it was impossible to go down, there was just the middle section which was the only access to the food stalls. sa dami ng tao mahirap bumaba, it would take about half an hour to get through. forget buying.

SOOO... we just smelled the aroma of the coffee and the popcorn, then we feasted on the crackers and candies and chicheria and sandwhiches and water and soda...burp!

then we went to the field to form the human cross, we marched to the beat of the CFC theme, wow!

we sang lord Jesus we enthrone you and we waved our candles. the spark of light, the flame of the Holy Spirit set us ablaze- AMAZING!

i felt like i was a bird flying, like a plane coming down on a tarmac, on an air field. it felt that way. here we were brothers and sisters all, one heart, one family...sana kasama din sila frank and the easter people of ffl...
sana...
sayang...

Questions for Frank Padilla-
1- For the past 25 years when you were the top leader of CFC, how many times did you ever consult Bishop G. Reyes, our spiritual director, on matters concerning organization, election, etc.?
2- You claimed that CFC have been veering away from their mission/vision and that you have complained about it for some time already, but the situation remains the same! As top leader of CFC, you were unable to influence the other council members ? Either you are very incompetent as their top leader, or your claims are not true at all?

3- As an elder in CFC, I have never heard you complain about the veering away in any our 2x/month Mission Core Groups Gathering. Or did I ever read about it in our Ugnayan magazines ! Did you ever think of bringing the matter to Bishop Reyes ?

4- When you finally resign on Feb 13, 2007 at the MCG Teaching Nite at Xavier School, did you ever consult or make paalam to Bishop G. Reyes before the crucial decision ?

5- What kind of top leader are you anyway- breaking away from his community, forming his own group, maligning his former community thru the bishops, media and internet, and trying to build himself up upon the ruins of his former community ? Doesn't your conscience ever bother you ?
6- Can I leave the following for your reflection?-
*You can not fool all of the people all of the time.
*Adversities and trials reveal our true nature and character.
*Whom the Gods wish to destroy, He first make mad- with power, with pride, and with envy !
*Reputation is what people think you are. Character is what you really are.

God bless,

Was stationed at Gate 1 (Security)... Ako yung may dala ng malaking penlight :)) =))

Was there from a little past 5, until about 11:30 pm when the human cross was about to be formed...

WHen the human cross was formed, you could only describe it in one word "NAKAKAKILABOT".

Truly this community is blessed!

BTW, I think we should always end our activities with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Mas meaningful, instead of ending it with a praise fest.

Tapos ang galing pa ni Lord, may "blessing" pa immediately after the mass, when he "sprinkled" holy water on us with his very light drizzle.

Anonymous said...

I was also there with Bro. Danny assigned to secure Gate 1.

The day before, I was asked by our chapter head if I want to volunteer as one of the securities for the event. I was too exhausted from work on the day itself. Hindi kasi ako nakapag siesta he he. Pero, service kasi ito para kay God and His people so I went. By God’s grace I was given additional strength and re-energized (parang baterya he he).

Funny thing is, when it rained hard, sa lusog namin dalawa ni Bro. Danny, nagkasya kami (nagsiksikan) sa isang umbrella. When the parking was already full, I then help in manning the gate for the persons on foot. At first it was a breeze. Madalang pa kasi yung mga taong dumarating. Sa totoo lang nahilo ako kakatingin ng stickets sa dagsa ng taong dumating after the rain.

When I heard that they were already starting the Human Cross, I asked to be excused so that I can participate in that momentous event. Iba talaga ang feeling. God is really with us that day. I actually commented na ”Maganda siguro kung ang angle shot ng camera galing sa helicopter.” May nag comment “ Kinunan na tayo ni God sa taas”.

After the mass, God blessed us with the sprinkle of rain. Galing no?

Wolfking po!
